Dear Akureyri people! Happy birthday! We all celebrate the 20 year old birthday of the new building and the improved older one, which was opened on 6th of March in 2004!

The history of the library itself is much much older but this was a very important part of it, because facilities improved so much, for the patrons, users and staff! There are still few of us working in the library today that participated in this process, the employees put together shelves, wagons and so many other tings.

During those 20 years a lot has changed and in the exhibition area of the library a TV has been put up which shows around 50 pictures that span these 20 years of our history as well as few pictures from the process from the year 2001 and onward.

Seeing is believing and here are just few pictures from the show that you can see in the exhibition area, but please come and celebrate with us. This is your library! We offer coffee and sweets today and hope that you enjoy your time with us.

For those interested, the cornerstone of the new building is in a pillar that is situated at the conjunction of the old and new buildings. You should see it every time you come into the library to the south.

CONGRATULATIONS TO US ALL!
