NOTE!
The Grímsey ferry Sæfari which has been out of service due to maintenance, will begin its scheduled trips again on June 7th, 2023. Until then, you can get to Grímsey by flight with Norlandair. The ferry Sæfari has a schedule between Dalvík and Grímsey all year round. The sailing takes about 3 hours each way and the ferry has a capacity of 108 passengers, in addition to cars and cargo. During the winter the ferry sails three to four times a week, and summer five times a week. Always check the updated schedule on the Road Administration website.
Dalvík is about 45 km north of Akureyri or approx. 40 min drive.
* June 1 - August 31: Mondays - Wednesdays - Thursdays - Fridays - Sundays
Departure from Dalvík at 9.00 with arrival in Grímsey at 12.00 - the stop in Grímsey is of different length depending on the day. Most days the stop is 4 or 5 hours and then there is either a departure from Grímsey at 16 or 17.00, with arrival in Dalvík 19.00/20.00. On Thursdays the stop is shorter (2 hours) Arriving Dalvík at 17.00
* May 15-31 & September 1-30: Mondays - Wednesdays - Thursdays - Fridays
Departure from Dalvík at 9.00 with arrival in Grímsey at 12.00 - the stop in Grímsey is 4 hours every day except Thursdays, when it is 2 hours. Departure from Grímsey at 16, except Thursdays at 14.00 with arrival in Dalvík at 19.00/17.00.
* October 1-January 14: Mondays - Wednesdays - Fridays
Departure from Dalvík at 9.00 with arrival in Grímsey at 12.00 - the stop in Grímsey is two hours. Departure from Grímsey at 14.00 and arrive in Dalvík at 17.00
* January 15-May 14: Mondays - Wednesdays - Thursdays - Fridays
Departure from Dalvík at 9.00 with arrival in Grímsey at 12.00 - the stop in Grímsey is two hours. Departure from Grímsey at 14.00 and arrive in Dalvík at 17.00
Tickets can only be booked online on the website of the Road Administration, see vegagerdin.is and on board the ferry. It is recommended to book in advance in the summer, because the ferry is often fully booked.

Please note that if you are taking a car with the ferry, you must arrive at the ferry 1 hour before departure.
If the ferry is fully booked, contact +3548532211 or send an email to ams@vegagerdin.is, because not all seats are bookable or if it is fully booked - you can be moved to a waiting list.
In order for us to pressurize that the supply and service to Grimsey’s customers is good, we would like your feedback!
We therefore encourage passengers who do not receive a ride or an answer regarding transportation to Grímsey to send us an email to info@vistakureyri.is so that we can push for improvements to the Road Administration for Grímsey's customers.
Bus no. 78 departs from Akureyri every weekday at 08.10 with arrival in Dalvík at 08.51 (according to the 2023 plan, see also www.straeto.is). The bus stop in Dalvík is by the local Olís gas station and from there you walk to the harbour approx. 650 meters or about 10 min walk. Sometimes you can ask the driver to stop closer to the dock if it's suitable to the driver.
Note it is a very short time between the arrival of the bus and the departure of the ferry!
There is no public transport available when arriving from Grímsey. Passengers can order a taxi from Dalvík Taxi on phone 8920808 or email olivermidlarinn@gmail.com. Price (2023): Dalvík - Akureyri is approx. ISK 15,000 (the car seats 8 persons).
There is plenty of parking at the port of Dalvík and they are free of charge.
